CELEBRATING A CULTURE. EMPOWERING A COMMUNITY.
Movie Night – PBS Documentary Series – “We Want the Funk” A Voyage through the history of Funk music
WE WANT THE FUNK! is a syncopated voyage through the history of funk music, spanning from African, soul, and early jazz roots, to its rise into the public consciousness. Featuring James Brown’s dynamism, the extraterrestrial funk of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic, transformed girl group Labelle, and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, the story also traces funk’s influences on both new wave and hip-hop.
We’ll have fresh popcorn, classic movie snacks, and beverages for everyone to enjoy. A special playlist will keep the energy going with the best hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Perfect for dancing, singing along, and making new memories with old-school favorites!
Movie Night will be held in the Harrison Museum at Melrose Plaza.
